Der Weg nach «Paradise City»

Die «Guns N‘ Roses» waren eine der grossen Bands der späten 80er und 90er Jahren. Unvergessen sind ihre Songs «Sweet Child o‘ mine», «November Rain» oder «The Garden». Die Perle schlechthin war aber der Titel «Paradise City» (1987).

Mit diesem Lied kritisierten die «Roses» unter anderem das damalige Sozialsystem der USA. «Paradise City» ist eines der tragenden Lieder des Albums «Appetite for Destruction»; es wurde rund 30 Millionen Mal verkauft und zählt zu den erfolgreichsten Debutalben.

Der Paradise-City-Gospel

Seitdem sind 20 Jahre verstrichen, und die Band lanciert in Neubesetzung ihr Comeback-Album. Parallel dazu wird an dieser Stelle eine Gospel-Version dieses Ur-Songs von Guns N' Roses vorgestellt: «Paradise City». Der leicht geänderte Text macht dieses alte Lied zukunftsweisend.

Der Mensch sehnt sich nach Leben, nach Sein, nach Sinn. In der Bibel beschreibt Gott, dass jeder der will, das auch erreichen kann. Und dass nach dem Tod nicht das Ende kommen muss, sondern womöglich der Übergang in die «Paradise City».

Und die erscheint in der Bibel in keiner Weise als etwas Luftiges, sondern als sehr handfest: mit pulsierenden Städten und einer atemberaubenden Natur. Es wird eine Welt sein, die sämtliche Erwartungen übertrifft; die echte «Paradise City» eben.
